Presentation title: Mastodons Among Us
Imagine a wild landscape of grassland, forests and erupting volcanoes... add a robust population of mammals including camels, rhinos, ancestral elephants and bone-crushing dogs -- such is the scene during the Late Miocene in what we know as present-day California. Join Ranger/Naturalist Greg Francek as he shares his account of the discovery of a significant northern California fossil deposit and the ongoing collaborative study being conducted by EBMUD, CSU Chico and a cadre of elite scientists.
Greg Francek is a Ranger/Naturalist who is employed by East Bay Municipal Utility District in the Mokelumne Watershed. As a patrol ranger, Greg’s work includes public safety duties such as regulation enforcement, wildland firefighting, Search & Rescue and medical response. His discovery of the Mokelumne fossil site has launched an intensive on-the-job education in paleontology with a team of elite scientists.

Check in 9-9:30am Speaker Mark Bare on Meteorites… origins, classification, & identification. Live auction to follow. Lunch of smoke sausages, baked beans and salads. $8, pay at check in. PLEASE RSVP FOR LUNCH, we will need a count to purchase the food. Business meeting to follow.
CO-OP society members are welcome to attend, please RSVP limited seating and parking. Guest feel free to bring an auction item, this is our only fundraiser.

The CO-OP “Field Trip Chairman’s Association” Celebrating 50 years in 2022!
We are looking forward to hosting our Seminar Meeting at the Sacramento County Extension Building 4145 Branch Center Rd. Sacramento CA. at 9 AM SUNDAY March 3rd, the day will be different than our usual Saturday as no Saturday was available. The location is free, and the room is much larger. Open to all CO-OP member society members. We hope to have more society members and guests attend our meeting. We will be holding our annual “Live Auction” for our fund raiser. We had a record-breaking auction last year! Thank you to our Donors and Bidders! Our host society will be Calaveras Gem & Mineral Society. Lunch and Speaker information to follow.
